This story was quite different from Natalie's other short story. Where they often offer background to characters, lore, or the extensive world of Inner Universe, VAULTS is like a missing, or extra, chapter to Under Far Galaxian Skies from the POV of Skye instead of Balfour.

For people who've not yet read Under Far Galaxian Skies (get on it, it's good!) it's worth mentioning that this short story contains quite a few spoilers for the events in the book.

But where this short story didn't provide a lot of new information to the story line of Skye and Balfour, it added a heartfelt view into Skyes' feelings for Balfour. It added a good dimension to Skye's tough character to be vulnerable and scared, and made the ending (both current story and the book) even more heartbreaking.

It leaves you hanging breathlessly, and it feels like a perfect teaser for the soon-to-be-released second book. I'm still hoping for a magical solution for the obstacles that's currently keeping them apart, but this short story didn't provide me with what I'd expected, so honestly, I'm a bit worried for what I'll find in book 2!
